This happened to my sister when I was younger and even though I don’t really believe Ouija boards in general are dangerous (since they’re literally toys marketed by Hasbro), I still have no idea how to explain how this happened or what was actually going on.
When my sister was about 15 or 16 years she went through a “witch phase”—she was really into witchcraft books and she had an altar and candles and ointments and all that stuff. One night, she and her friend were used a Ouija board.
Later that night, when everyone was asleep, she woke up screaming. We all went into her room and she was in her bed covered up from her neck down, crying. When my mom and dad finally got her to show her what was wrong, she showed us a big, red welt/burn on her leg—it was shaped like a key hole and had three or four dots around it and it was still hot, as if it had just happened. We had no idea what or why the burn was there-my parents checked her bed for something that could have burned her and there was nothing.
Eventually, I guess through a series of further weird events or my sister just telling them, it was decided that the Ouija board was to blame, that my sister had done something wrong when using it. And this is what still freaks me out even now as an adult—that my parents, especially my dad, actually believed it was the board. My dad is a pretty no nonsense guy and always thought my sister was lying so it must have been pretty convincing for him to believe this.
Eventually my parents took the board outside and burned it. We stood there watching it burn for awhile and something even more unsettling happened—even though the rest of the board lay black and smoldering, the “NO” refused to burn. This whole ordeal freaked my sister out so much that she packed up all her witchcraft books and candles and never performed anymore spells.
Years later, my sister was telling the story to a co-worker at hers—the woman was really religious and when my sister mentioned the shape of the mark, the woman got really scared and said that that keyhole shaped mark is a Satanic symbol. I have no idea if this is true or not—I haven’t been able to find any verification about it. But nevertheless, it freaked my sister out a lot—she still gets really scared whenever there are Ouija boards around.
I’ve never been able to figure out what actually went on that night and it still creeps me out to this day.

Do you love Halloween? So do we!
