So a couple of years back when I was still living at home (we all live in mid-Sweden), I had this room where the window was facing a street. It was some distance away with an area of grass between the street and my window, and my room was also on the second floor, so it wasn’t right there, but it was always out of the corner of my eye. A pretty quiet street with a few street-lights.
Now, we also have cats, and for some reason the one who usually stayed in my room started scratching at the window one night. Just standing on her hind legs, scratching the window and meowing, at around ten or eleven pm. I was sitting next to the window, was fiddling with my laptop and stuff, so I basically laughed a bit at the cat and shrugged it off as her being quirky.
But then the next night, she did it again, in the same time window. And the night after that. And the night after that. So after those few nights of that I started thinking it was pretty weird, but I didn’t know what could be causing it, and she only ever kept this up for a few minutes (however regularly) so I wasn’t thinking too much about it other than, you know, “she’s doing it again?”
Then, on that last night, I had a dream where I was standing in my room and looking out the window at the street, where there was this shape of a man. Being some distance away you couldn’t tell anything about him other than the fact that he was looking back at me. I kept watching him and he kept waching me, and then, suddenly, I have no idea if he moved at all, he was right in front of my window, looking in. Which would have been impossible since it was on the second floor … but he was right there, staring into my room, and I can’t remember anything about him other than this big white grin.
I was really freaked out, so I backed away from the window. He raised his hands and pressed them towards the window like he was leaning on it and I started searching for the door handle behind me because I had a really bad feeling about him and what would happen if he got inside. He kept pressing himself against the window and then, after a few tense moments, he was inside my room like he’d just phased through, and he was looking straight at me all the time. I want to picture him as kind of smoky-looking, but I could be making that up in hindsight.
Anyway, I don’t remember anything else of the dream. It wasn’t a nightmare or anything, I only recalled it later in the day, but I was joking with my friends about how that’s what my cat would have been trying to warn me about. So this time I was paying attention to her when it was getting late. But she never once scratched at the window again.
I don’t really believe in much of the paranormal, but I was really spooked for a few days following this, thinking that since the man had gotten into my room there was no point for my cat to guard the window anymore.
